Big Sister Young Sister Initiative Project

The Big Sister Young Sister (BSYS) Initiative is an innovative self-sustaining mentorship program, which allows for the harnessing of experiences and expertise of female student teacher trainees (18 – 24) to benefit 10 000 Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) between the ages of 15 and 18 in 100 secondary schools. The Goal of the Initiative is the Retention of empowered adolescent girls and young women in Secondary Schools in 4 Districts by 2018 which will be realized through 2 key results namely; a.) Increased access for in-school support for vulnerable adolescent girls and young women in secondary schools through structured mentorship, and b.) Strengthened integration of in school vulnerable adolescent girls and young women with health related services and empowerment initiatives. The BSYS Initiative will be implemented in four (4) DREAMS Districts in Zimbabwe (Mutare, Bulawayo, Gweru and Mazowe) targeting 3 teacher training colleges namely Mutare, Hillside and Belvedere Technical Teachers’ Colleges which will serve 100 secondary schools.
