Commemorating International Condom Day

Published by SAYWHAT on

SAYWHAT joins the rest of the world in commemorating the International Condom Day, a day that has been created by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation as an innovative and light-hearted way to remind people that wearing a condom can prevent unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections.

International Condom Day is celebrated internationally on the 13th of February every year, a day before Valentine’s Day. This year’s theme is “Safer is Sexy”, it is all about encouraging people to make their sex life safe, healthy and pleasurable.

As SAYWHAT we celebrate this day encouraging correct and consistent use of condoms as these provide dual protection against unintended pregnancies and sexual transmission of HIV. When this highly effective strategy is used consistently and correctly the risk for HIV transmission is very low.

We pledge to continue advocating for practicing responsible behaviour within tertiary institutions and communities until zero new HIV infections are realised. Yes, it is indeed possible if we all choose to take charge of our actions.

As we celebrate International Condom Day as well as Valentine’s Day, let us do so in a responsible and smart way. Always remember, “Safer is Sexy!”
